So I'm now wondering who else got this:

The CMC outlet of Army ROTC is recruiting me. *Me.* Can anyone else back me up on how wrong and just plain strange that is? Me and "other select members of your senior class." Mmmhm. *boggles*

And here's a lovely gem in the middle of the letter:

"America's Soldiers are demonstrating the goodness of America and Americans every day around the world, instilling and protecting democratic processes, principles and values in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Europe, Asia, South and Central America and here in the United States. Every day, America's Soldiers, led by Army Officers, are truly making a difference for America and the world."

Excuse me while I keel over from the sheer, painful irony.

And hm. No wonder folks don't think much of U.S. students--the Army, supposedly home of our Best and Brightest, thinks Europe, Asia, and South and Central America are countries. Don't even get me started on the hash US involvement has made of countries in those areas. And notice how they forgot Africa, ne?

Now, I support our troops and all that jazz, but this recruiting stuff is more than somewhat ridiculous. And I'm seriously wondering if there were some qualities of mine that led to me getting this letter, or if all the seniors got one. Because the mind boggles trying to think of one: I'm kinda not fond of authority, I don't necessarily play well with others, and I'm over-educated to the point of crazy, which means I'm not going to believe whatever propaganda training crap I'd get fed. Which means I'd prolly get lynched in pretty short order. Plus- I'm a slasher. XD

There was a weird usage of the word "phase" on the second page, and some of their lists were kind of wonky, too. Which made me think: "You guys don't need me as a leader--you need me as an *editor*."

But they ain't gettin' me, in any case. :-P

I had a good laugh when I got the ROTC letter as well. I wonder what made them pick us, of all people!?

College senior. Load of debts and unsurety about what you want to do from now on.

Hmmm...I didn't get one.

(Probably on their "too gay to serve in the army" list or something.)

(Not that I'm complaining...)

It's not your dissenting opinions but your slashing that will keep you out of the armed forces, Helen, lol.

Slashers: The few. The proud. The pervy.

Hehe yeah I didn't get one either... bet there's something to the loan thing, because I'm not on anything serious (less than $1000 over the last four years, so far), and you don't have any, do you Rachel? It would certainly be like the military to exploit money woes.

I would guess something like most/all of the seniors got one, based on my exceedingly casual inspection of mailboxes last night.
